I began practicing law in Cuyahoga and Portage Counties in 1974. Since then, I have appeared in courts in every county across northern Ohio from Ashtabula to Wood, represented clients along the I-77 corridor south to Guernsey, Noble and Washington Counties, and worked across the State as far as Hamilton and Preble Counties.
Over these past thirty-nine years, I have advised clients in many different areas of law.
I have been legal counsel to family-owned businesses, advising clients on forming a business, buying a business, operating a business, writing service contracts, sales contracts, and construction contracts, preparing and reviewing employer policy manuals, preparing and reviewing bid documents and advising clients on selling a business to outside buyers and on transferring a family business to the next generation of family business owners.
I have advised clients on estate planning and on preparation for long-term care. I have represented parties in disputed Probate estates and recovered assets for estate beneficiaries when those assets had been transferred or hidden.
I have extensive experience in real estate law. I was counsel to a local real estate firm for many years prior to its acquisition by a national corporation. I have written real estate sales contracts, land installment contracts, purchase money mortgages, leases and option contracts. In some cases I have gone to court to enforce those contracts. In recent years, I have defended foreclosure cases in several counties. I have won dismissals of bank cases filed against some of my homeowner clients, and I have negotiated successful settlements of foreclosures for other homeowner clients. In 2008, I was approved by the Ohio Supreme Court Office of Continuing Legal Education to teach "Defense of Foreclosure" to other attorneys.
I have defended citizens charged with driving under the influence or operating a vehicle under the influence in twenty-five court jurisdictions in Ohio. In 1997, I was approved by the Supreme Court of Ohio Office of Continuing Legal Education to teach "Defense of DUI" to other attorneys.
I have recovered damages for injured citizens in personal injury claims, where people were hurt in automobile collisions or in falls caused by failures to properly maintain buildings and sidewalks.
I have defended citizens in collection cases, and I have filed claims on behalf of citizens under the Ohio Consumer Sales Practices Act to recover damages for those citizens for unlawful actions by sellers or lenders.
I have represented clients in appeals to the Court of Appeals of Ohio for the Sixth, Eighth, Ninth, and Eleventh Appellate Districts, and in the Supreme Court of Ohio.
I received my law degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 1974. I graduated from Michigan State University in 1971, where my area of concentration was Economics and I was admitted to the honorary society of Phi Beta Kappa.
